Mobility Scooter & Powerchair Insurance - 1 year Plus

It is very important to note that although insurance is not compulsory yet, the DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT states: ‘Although it is not a legal requirement, an insurance policy is strongly advised'.   More Than Mobility agrees with this statement and highly recommends taking out an insurance policy for your mobility scooter or powerchair.

Our Mobility Insurance policy is designed for owners of mobility scooters and power chairs valued at up to £5,000 and provides insurance protection in the event of accidental damage (including fire, theft and malicious damage) and personal liability arising from its ownership or use. For equipment purchased new you will have the option of insuring for 12, 24 or 36 months. For used equipment, you will normally only be allowed to take out this insurance for a period of 12 months only. Prior to expiry, all policies will be offered renewal for a period of 12 months.


Summary of Plus Key Insurance Benefits (items marked in red are the additional benefits over the standard cover)

  • Full Breakdown Recovery - no reason to worry about being stranded if you breakdown while you are out and about on your scooter or powerchair because our insurance company will arrange to recover you and your product and take you safely home.  Even if you have a puncture or battery failure!
  • Fire, Theft and Vandalism - will cover the cost of repairing or replacing your product if it is unfortunately stolen or vandalised.
  • Accidental Damage - full cover against loss or accidental damage whatever the cause.   Our insurance company will cover the cost of repairing your product if it is lost or damaged by any accidental cause including fire, storm, theft and vandalism.
  • Personal Effects
  • Public and Personal Liability up to £2 million.  In an ever increasingly litigious society it is vital that you have this sort of cover to protect against third party claims which may arise as in connection with the ownership, possession or use of your mobility product up to £2,000,000.
  • Lost Starter Keys - will pay up to £50.00 to repay you for costs incurred if you are unlucky enough to lose your keys while you are away from your home address
  • Worldwide Cover - if you need to take your mobility product on holiday with you we will cover it (subject to prior notification) at no additional cost for up to 30 days in any one year (excluding USA and Canada)
  • Any Driver Cover - includes any driver cover so if you need someone else to drive your scooter or powerchair for you and they are unlucky enough to have an accident we will cover the cost of the repair.
  • Manual wheelchair cover - if you also have a manual wheelchair we will include full cover for that up to the value of £1,000 as well as your scooter or powerchair at no extra cost as long as you let us have the full details of the wheelchair.
  • Hire Costs - limit in any one year of insurance is increased from £100 to £250
  • Hospitalisation benefit - maximum payable in any one year is increased from £125 to £250 and the daily limit increased from £5 to £10
  • Mugging - payment limit is increased from £100 to £250 and daily limit is increased from £5 to £10
  • Legal expenses - incurred in negotiating for your legal rights to obtain compensation from a third party in respect of your death or bodily injury or loss or or damage to your property arising directly as a result of your use of the mobility equipment up to max of £25,000 in any one year of insurance.
  • Alternative Mobility Equipment - if at the same time as the mobility equipment is damaged you suffer bodily injury, which makes the mobility equipment unsuitable for your future use, you will be provided with a suitable replacement up to amount not exceeding £3,000 above the sum you have insured the mobility equipment for.
  • Personal accident - the benefits payabel in the event of your death will be the original purchase price of the mobility equipment or £1,000 whichever is the greater.

Please note our mobility scooter insurance does not cover for hire equipment.

Notification of claims

If you need to notify the insurer of a claim or any circumstance or incident that may cause a claim you should contact Mark Bates Ltd, Premier House, Harlaxton Road, Grantham, Lincolnshire NG31 7JZ.  Tel: 01476 593887.  You should immediately report to the police any incident involving theft, malicious damage, vandalism or loss of property.
