A stairlift can be a blessed relief to someone who wants to stay in their own home and struggles with the stairs. Often a cheaper option than moving or creating a downstairs bathroom and bedroom, today’s stairlift are much more affordable and look much nicer than in the past.
Stairlift types
There are basically two different types, straight for straight stairs and curved for curved stairs. The straight lift invariably costs much less than a curved version as the curved involves more engineering content as it is made to measure.
How is it fitted?
A stairlift is usually fitted to the stair tread so there are no wall mountings, as the lifts have become more sophisticated they have become slimmer, less intrusive and can be installed in a matter of hours. The majority of lifts work on a battery system via a standard three-pin socket so if there is a power failure the lift will still operate. |
