Sunday Tea Parties + Leather Rise & Recline Chair on Special Offer!

Monday, February 27th, 2012 by morethan

Below is an update from one of our team who hosted their first Sunday tea party for Contact the elderly, one of our Charities for 2012, this last weekend:

“My first time as a host for Contact the elderly.  I love baking but am a bit out of practice – a trial batch of scones the previous day was straight out for the birds, but having realised that my fan oven temperature converter was wrong the Sunday morning batch came out just fine.  We stuck to a traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones and cake which was (gratifyingly) well received and easy for our guests to have as much or as little as they wanted.

I had worried about how I would seat everyone comfortably as a number of our guests suffered from reduced mobility but my husband did a great job in furniture rearranging and offering a strong arm to the ladies.  We hosted 5 elderly guests and 4 volunteer drivers.  Conversation was non stop with a wide variety of topics and there was a really interesting variety of people – both the elderly guests and the driver-volunteers who taxied the guests and stayed for tea and conversation.

As a family we really enjoyed the afternoon – a young guest of ours who is in London interning after graduating last year came back from a weekend trip early in order to be there ( she was quickly designated chief scone compiler and demonstrated an amazing ability to pile large quantities of jam and cream onto quite dainty scones!).  As we waved everyone off in gorgeous sunshine we were already discussing the menu for our next Contact the elderly Sunday.  Volunteers hosts are asked to commit two Sundays a year.

For us it was a real pleasure to welcome the elderly guests and their drivers into our home and definitely something we will look forward to repeating.  My husband has already compiled a list of cake possibilities and suggested some trial runs with him as chief taster! ”

Best wishes

Top Gear & Mobility Scooters

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 by morethan

Top Gear would not normally feature on our preferred viewing for Sunday evening but one of our team has teenage sons, who alerted him to last Sunday’s programme.  It featured the three presenters faced with the challenge of putting together a cheap mobility scooter to go off-road.  Once they had each put together three very different and pretty ungainly machines, they were challenged to a team race to the top of a hill by three mobility scooter-using ex-soldiers.  The soldiers chose the long way round, following tracks and paths, whilst Jeremy Clarkson and his team chose to go “route one” as they called it – straight up the hill!

The outcome was predictable; the three soldiers got to the top, not without incident, whilst only one of the Top Gear team made it, and he had tank-like tracks instead of wheels (which hadn’t been ideal when he took the mobility scooter into town earlier!).  And some recognition at least, that whilst cheap is good, more important is having the right machine for the job!

It re-enforced how important it is to choose the right mobility scooter for your needs.  There is so much variety available from portable mobility scooters, pavement mobility scooters or 8mph road legal mobility scooters and having a mobility scooter that can climb up a muddy hill is pointless if you just want to go round the local shopping centre or run down to the corner shop.  Similarly if you’re planning to do some longer trips, features like suspension can make the ride so much more comfortable.

When we came into this business; we found the vast variety of mobility scooters confusing; so we created our Guide to Mobility Scooters and our Best For” Mobility Scooter list, which many of our customers have found useful to navigate through.  So for example, we continue to recommend our “best-selling portable mobility scooter”, the Pride Go-Go Elite Traveller, which in its Plus version has a range of up to 15 miles, and our “best selling 8mph road legal mobility scooter”, the Shoprider Cordoba which is sturdy and offers up to a 35 miles range.  And of course, to help out the Top Gear team, we recommend the TGA SuperSport as the “best for off road”.

To request a copy of the Guide to Mobility Scooters and our Best For” list please email us at or call our customer services team on 0800 046 3949 and they will pop one in the post.

Finally our team are always pleased to help you make your choice so to find out what’s best for you, give us a call.

Best wishes

Getting ready for Spring and your Mobility Scooter

Thursday, February 9th, 2012 by morethan

On the way to work today it was quite noticeably lighter – the days are getting longer and the birds are yelling their heads off before 8am.  In our area there is actually a flock of green parakeets that steal all the bird food and bully the smaller birds away – the parakeets were all in good voice this morning before the alarm went off!

Now, in our experience, the slightly longer days mean that the first truly bright-with-a-promise-of-spring day is on its way, and we would like to help you make sure that will you will able to make the most of it.  So, if you already own a Mobility Scooter can we suggest that this is the time to be prepared?

Check the mobility scooter batteries (especially if you have been a little lax with your battery charging protocol over the winter) – the number of calls relating to batteries that won’t start goes through the roof as soon as the weather improves.  Our mobility scooter batteries start from as little as £45 for a pair.  Likewise if you are due a mobility scooter service – give us a call and get it booked in now as the early spring slots get filled by the habitually well organised and you can be part of that group if you call now and get booked in!

Time For A New Mobility Scooter?

If this is the year for an upgrade or a new model we would be happy to help – do ask for our Mobility Scooter Buyers Guide and our “Best For” Mobility Scooter Flyer.  The general Buyers Guide combined with the “Best For” flyer helps narrow down your selection from what can be a dizzyingly wide range of mobility scooters (portable, pavement and 8mph road legal mobility scooters) to choose from.  Our team have many years of experience so they are good resource and happy to spend whatever time you need answering your questions.  We know these are important choices and decisions so they do take a bit of time.  Our More Than Mobility “Best For” flyer also shows the best-selling mobility scooters as many customers like to buy a model that is a popular best seller so we make sure that you have that information also.

We can supply the whole mobility scooter package from batteries to services to engineer delivery and insurance.  When you are thinking through what you need do remember that there are lots of accessories from cup holders to bags, rain covers and capes.  You might like to consider the 6 piece Mobility Scooter Accessories pack which is on an early bird discount for £59.99 (£10 saving):

Do be prepared this year – it would be our pleasure to help however large or small your order is.

We often handle smaller orders … do YOU know where the key is for your mobility scooter?  If not don’t despair – we can usually get you a new one very fast!

With very best wishes
