The Big FifTEA for Contact the elderly

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015 by morethan

Last Sunday, 19th April was the 50th Anniversary of one of our charities we support, Contact the elderly.    Contact the elderly is a national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people. Supported by a network of volunteers, the charity organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people, aged 75 and over, who live alone. Offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.

As part of their Golden Jubilee celebration; every tea party in the country took place on Sunday called The Big FifTEA.  One of our team members attended one of these teas in South London and here are a few photos showing the fun that was had by all.  Especially when some of the older ladies saw for the first time Aidan Turner in Poldark and had their first selfie!

Mobility Products to Celebrate Parkinson’s Awareness Week

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015 by morethan

It’s Parkinson’s Awareness Week (20th – 26th April) and More Than Mobility have been long supporters of this campaign and we have many mobility products suited to those suffering with Parkinson’s disease.

The organisers Parkinson’s UK has been working to find a cure and improve life for Parkinson’s sufferers for the past 40 years. They have a UK-wide network of information and 1000s of support workers working for them as they state that “Every hour somebody in the UK is told that they have Parkinson’s”. They bring people with Parkinson’s, their carers and families together via a network of local groups, website and a free, confidential helpline.

Information and support workers are trained to provide:

  • up-to-date information on Parkinson’s
  • emotional support to you and your family
  • information about and links to your local services

You can arrange a home, hospital, or residential nursing care visit from an information and support worker or phone them for support and information. If you have Parkinson’s, or you know someone who has, you can contact them on 0808 800 0303.

Here at More Than Mobility we don’t want any disability to stop you from living independently and we would like to make getting out and about easier and less painful for you.  We have a wide range of useful products to get you around the house or when you are out and about so do take a look at today!

See below for some useful daily living aids to add to your Parkinson’s Everyday Kit:

It’s Spring and Now Time To Check Your Mobility Scooter or Electric Wheelchair Batteries!

Thursday, April 9th, 2015 by morethan

The sun is shining but before you go out for your leisurely ride through the fields or park; make sure to remember to double check your mobility scooter battery and your mobility scooter or electric wheelchair. Looking after and regularly charging your batteries will increase the maximum performance of your mobility product. Batteries are likely to need replacing every 2- 3 years, although you may be able to use them for longer if you take care and check them regularly.

Some general advice for checking and maintain your batteries are:
  • Regularly charge your battery (ideally every day after use) and even if you are not using your mobility product we recommend that you charge the battery at least twice per week.
  • Do not interrupt charging. In other words, be sure that the batteries are fully charged before you take them off charge.  This can take up to 8 hours.
  • Only use the charger that has been supplied with your mobility scooter or powerchair. Using an incompatible battery charger is likely to be detrimental to battery life.
  • Dampness can be harmful to all batteries – If your mobility product gets sodden with rainwater, it is a good idea to remove the batteries and wipe them down with a dry cloth before replacing.
  • Extreme temperatures can have a very detrimental effect on the life of your batteries – so it is important that you store them in a suitable place if you are not going to use the vehicle for a prolonged period.

If you need help with servicing your mobility scooter or checking & replacing batteries do give us a

call on 0800 046 3949 and we can arrange for a local engineer to come to your home to repair, replace it or give your product an annual service. Not sure which battery you need for your Mobility Scooter or Electric Wheelchair? When replacing your battery we have made life easier for you by creating a simple table which shows you the battery size you need, next to your mobility scooter or electric wheelchair make and model. Mobility Offer Extended! Finally we have extended our Spring £5 OFF when you spend over £100 on any mobility products until 30th April 2015. Please quote SPRING15 when ordering online or by phone to receive this offer.
