NEW PRODUCT: HurryCane All Terrain Cane Folding Walking Stick

Monday, October 16th, 2017 by morethan

Most walking sticks and canes are fine for standing. But what about when you’re getting up from a chair, gettinghurricane 1 out of a car and climbing up stairs? Traditional canes just weren’t designed for it. But the very first time you use a HurryCane®, you realize how delightfully different it is.

This unique all terrain cane folding walking stick stands up by itself and never falls over – its patented pivotal base provides superior balance and stability.

Stabilises Like a Foot
Just like the human foot, the HurryCane® gives you 3 points of contact for superior balance and stability. It naturally simulates your instinctive walking motion. Whether you’re sitting or standing, the SteadiGrip™ base gives you more traction at almost any angle.

hurrycanePivots Like an Ankle
The ankle is the most complex joint in the body because it has the trickiest job: support your full weight while giving you the flexibility to walk, run and turn on a dime. It automatically pivots to help you maintain balance on inclines, uneven ground and shifting terrain. We designed the HurryCane’s proprietary pivot head to meet the same demanding standards − and it does it all, automatically.

Height Adjustable
People come in all different heights. That’s why we engineered the HurryCane® to lengthen and shorten in seconds. With just the push of a button, it instantly adjusts to the right height. The Freedom Edition™ has 8 height settings, ranging from 30.5″ to 37.5″.

Bends Like a Knee
Your knees bend to help you get in and out of restrictive places like cars. But the HurryCane® Freedom Edition™ is even better: instead of one joint, you get 3! When you need to store it in a purse, glove box or under a chair, the HurryCane® folds up in seconds to one-third its normal size; and when you need it, it can be assembled almost instantly. While our cane has three joints, it’s still strong and sturdy enough to support up to 25 stone.

Available in choice of 4 colours:  black, blue, red and purple.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Saturday, October 14th, 2017 by morethan

At More Than Mobility we are big supporters of the Breast Cancer Care charitybreast cancer and Breast Cancer Awareness Month which takes place every October.

Around 5,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this month and up to 60,000 this year.  However more people than ever are surviving (especially if it is caught early), but the reality is that someone is diagnosed every 10 minutes in the UK.  Therefore we recommend all women to check their breast regularly for any signs or symptoms.

Know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer

Signs and symptoms of breast cancer can include:

  • a change in size or shape
  • a lump or area that feels thicker than the rest of the breast
  • a change in skin texture such as puckering or dimpling (like the skin of an orange)
  • redness or rash on the skin and/or around the nipple
  • your nipple has become pulled in or looks different, for example changed its position or shape
  • liquid that comes from the nipple without squeezing
  • pain in your breast or your armpit that’s there all or almost all of the time
  • a swelling in your armpit or around your collarbone

It’s not just a lump – there are other signs and symptoms of breast cancer to look out for too. Get to know what’s normal for you, so you can spot any unusual changes quickly.

You can show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by buying and wearing a pink ribbon pin today.  Click here to get your pink ribbon.

World Arthritis Day – 12th October

Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 by morethan

Thursday 12th October is World Arthritis Day #WAD2017 and this year the message is Early arthritisDiagnosis:  ‘Don’t Delay, Connect Today.

The ‘Don’t Delay, Connect Today’ campaign aims to highlight the importance of early diagnosis of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) and to encourage people with RMDs, their carer’s, families and friends to seize every opportunity to take action and make a difference to the quality of life of people with RMDs.

With your support, we can work together towards earlier diagnosis and timely access to evidence-based treatment!  Help raise awareness by learning about the symptoms of RMDs:

  • Inflammation indicated by joint swelling, stiffness, redness, and/or warmth
  • Persistent muscle and joint pain
  • Tenderness
  • Extreme fatigue, lack of energy, weakness, or a feeling of malaise
  • Stiffness and restricted range in movement or flexibility
  • Joint deformity
  • Symptoms affecting the internal organs
  • Invisible symptoms e.g. depression and anxiety

Why is early diagnosis important?
Early diagnosis is key to preventing further damage, but RMDs often receive delayed or no diagnosis. This is often due to a lack of awareness – it’s important to know the symptoms of RMDs, and to contact a healthcare professional if you have concerns. If not treated appropriately, daily activities are affected – reducing peoples’ quality of life and affecting physical abilities.

Specialist Housing Care Schemes: Assisted Living and Extra-Care Housing

Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 by morethan

We often get asked about the levels of care available and what is assisted living. Assisted living and extra care schemes provide a more intensive level of support than traditional sheltered housing for older people who need some personal care or other types of help, but who are otherwise able to live safely and independently on their own. There will usually be at least one member of staff on hand 24 hours a day.

The type of care and housing offered will vary from scheme to scheme. Care staff will usually be on call 24 hours a day, to provide personal care as and when you need it. Personal care includes things like washing and dressing, cleaning and shopping but not medical care that would need to be provided by a qualified nurse.

Additional facilities are often available to cater for people who are not able to get out regularly, perhaps including a restaurant, shop, gym, hobby room, and so on. Activities may be arranged regularly, as in sheltered housing, commonly with an emphasis on improving or maintaining residents’ health and wellbeing. Some schemes are able to continue caring for people who develop dementia.

Similar schemes may also be called very sheltered, close care or continuing care communities.

If you would like to find out more or find assisted living in your area visit Housing
