Importance of Power Chair and Mobility Scooter Insurance

Thursday, February 4th, 2016 by morethan

More Than Mobility are strong believers of independence and are aware mobility products are not always cheap. Being insured against things like accident, theft or breakdown is important to the life of the mobility scooter or power chair.

Another good reason to insure is if you were to have a bump and ended up hurting yourself or someone else or damaging their property, they could make a claim against you.

Although mobility insurance is not compulsory yet, the Department of Transport states:

‘Although it is not a legal requirement, an insurance policy is strongly advised.”  We therefore recommend that you take out insurance on your wheelchair, mobility scooter or power chair.

Please visit our website for more information on our insurance products or call us on 0800 046 3949.  Mobility scooter insurance starts from as little as £86 per annum which is only £1.66 per week so for only a little extra you can get peace of mind (wheelchair insurance from as little as £28 per annum).  Plus if you sign up today you can get an additional 3 months for FREE – i.e. 15 months for the price of 12!

Disability Awareness Day This Sunday 12th July 2015

Monday, July 6th, 2015 by morethan

Disability Awareness Day (DAD), is Europe’s largest ‘not for profit’ voluntary-led disability exhibition. It is held annually in a huge tented village within the grounds Walton Hall Gardens in Warrington, Cheshire. In the past it has attracted over 27,000 visitors from across the region.

Visitors to the show will find over 250 exhibitors, equipment suppliers, transport, holidays, leisure, employment, support groups and services. PLUS a Sports Zone including Scuba diving, an Arts Marque and family entertainment. The show opens this Sunday 12th July at 10am and finishes at 5pm, and entry is FREE. The Royal Air Force spectacular scheduled for 1.10pm on Sunday is a must see.

The Aims of DAD

Disability Awareness Day has been around since 1992, and is an event which promotes a can do culture focussing on what disabled people can do throughout life and work.

The show has three main aims:

  • To highlight what statutory, private or voluntary services are available to enable disabled people to stay independent.
  • To promote equipment and aides that could maintain or improve independence, not just what is offered by statutory service providers, DAD want everyone to see the best and/or latest designs
  • To provide an opportunity to showcase what disabled people can do, in the field of Sport, Arts and Entertainment

The run-up to this year’s event has attracted local, regional and national media interest. Several highly recognised individuals are supporting this year’s event, World Champions and Paralympian’s are supporting the Sports Zone, and the Performing Arts Marque sees acts including Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists Urban Gypsies and BBC Autistic Super Stars Carly Ryan and Martin Finn.

There will be events happening throughout the week running up to the 12th so there will be plenty to do – click HERE for the events calendar.  If you are in the Cheshire area this weekend we recommend popping along as it will be a great day out for the whole family.

Best wishes

Disabled People At Work Exhibition

Monday, June 16th, 2014 by morethan

A photography exhibition has opened up in Liverpool. The aim of this exhibition is to dispel the myths about disability and employment.

There are large photographs taken in the city and from countries across the world, Working Lives: Here and There shows active disabled people in their places of work.

The images have been created to challenge negative myths surrounding disability and employment. Colin McPherson, the photographer who put the show together, says: “I wanted to produce something that looked positive, direct, optimistic and powerful,” and for this the disabled subjects had to be seen working productively, he says.

If you live near the exhibition, we recommend you try and get down.

This free exhibition will run from 12th Jun 2014 – 25th Jul 2014 and is held at 43 Castle Street, Liverpool. More information can be found here.
